Deception is a strategic tactic that has been used in warfare since Biblical times. During World War II, Operation Bodyguard was fabricated by the British with the intent to mislead the Germans regarding the landing destination for the invasion of Europe. The imaginative use of balloon-like replicas of tanks, trucks and equipment along with a ghost army successfully convinced the Germans the invasion would happen at Pas de Calais rather than Normandy. By the time the Germans were able to re-group once the invasion commenced, the British and Americans had formed a beach-head and were advancing inland. The ruse was vital to the success of the June 6th invasion…
